2 Kings 14:23-29

Jeroboam II King of Israel
2Ki 14:23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah, Jeroboam son of Jehoash king of Israel became king in Samaria, and he reigned forty-one years. 24 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord and did not turn away from any of the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit. 25 He was the one who restored the boundaries of Israel from Lebo Hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, in accordance with the word of the Lord, the God of Israel, spoken through his servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from Gath Hepher.
2Ki 14:26 The Lord had seen how bitterly everyone in Israel, whether slave or free, was suffering; there was no one to help them. 27 And since the Lord had not said he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven, he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Jehoash.
2Ki 14:28 As for the other events of Jeroboam’s reign, all he did, and his military achievements, including how he recovered for Israel both Damascus and Hamath, which had belonged to Yaudi, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel? 29 Jeroboam rested with his fathers, the kings of Israel. And Zechariah his son succeeded him as king.

Judgment on Israel
Am 2:6 This is what the Lord says: “For three sins of Israel, even for four, I will not turn back my wrath. They sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals.
Am 2:7 They trample on the heads of the poor as upon the dust of the ground and deny justice to the oppressed. Father and son use the same girl and so profane my holy name.
Am 2:8 They lie down beside every altar on garments taken in pledge. In the house of their god they drink wine taken as fines.

Witnesses Summoned Against Israel
Am 3:1 Hear this word the Lord has spoken against you, O people of Israel—against the whole family I brought up out of Egypt:
Am 3:2 “You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your sins.”
Am 3:3 Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?
Am 3:4 Does a lion roar in the thicket when he has no prey? Does he growl in his den when he has caught nothing?
Am 3:5 Does a bird fall into a trap on the ground where no snare has been set? Does a trap spring up from the earth when there is nothing to catch?
Am 3:6 When a trumpet sounds in a city, do not the people tremble? When disaster comes to a city, has not the Lord caused it?
Am 3:7 Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.
Am 3:8 The lion has roared— who will not fear? The Sovereign Lord has spoken— who can but prophesy?
Am 3:9 Proclaim to the fortresses of Ashdod and to the fortresses of Egypt: “Assemble yourselves on the mountains of Samaria; see the great unrest within her and the oppression among her people.”
Am 3:10 “They do not know how to do right,” declares the Lord, “who hoard plunder and loot in their fortresses.”
Am 3:11 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “An enemy will overrun the land; he will pull down your strongholds and plunder your fortresses.”
Am 3:12 This is what the Lord says: “As a shepherd saves from the lion’s mouth only two leg bones or a piece of an ear, so will the Israelites be saved, those who sit in Samaria on the edge of their beds and in Damascus on their couches.”
Am 3:13 “Hear this and testify against the house of Jacob,” declares the Lord, the Lord God Almighty.
Am 3:14 “On the day I punish Israel for her sins, I will destroy the altars of Bethel; the horns of the altar will be cut off and fall to the ground.
Am 3:15 I will tear down the winter house along with the summer house; the houses adorned with ivory will be destroyed and the mansions will be demolished,” declares the Lord.
